Prince and the Revolution’s Purple Rain added to the Library Of Congress’ National Recording Registry

“Ladies and Gentlemen: the Revolution”

Kudos to my favorite band of all-time, Prince and the Revolution, on the selection of the album Purple Rain to be included in the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry. It’s no small feat for a song to be included, much less a whole album.

Not surprisingly, it’s the soundtrack to Prince’s Purple Rain that’s being hailed by the Library as “culturally significant,” with credit going to the album not only for mixing synth-pop and soul with guitar-based rock, but also for featuring controversial content that, for better or worse (probably much worse) directly led to the founding of the Parents Music Resource Center. Does Prince have Tipper Gore to thank for this honor?
